Fishing with Kevin Messer

Hello, my name is Kevin Messer. I love to go fishing, I grew up learning how to fish with my dad and mom when I was five years old. Everything my parents taught me I have since taught my children. We go fishing every chance we get, and usually they out fish me. We will try for most any fish in the pond or lake. My most memorable fishing trip was in a boat with my uncle fishing for Bass. The fish broke the line on my rod, then hit on my sisters' line next to me; we were sitting next to each other. After pulling it in, she caught my hooks on the bass jig I was using and the fish was still on the second hook. We figured we caught the seven pound bass together. Not a bad catch for a nine and seven year old.

Now days I am an old retired Marine who has traveled around the world and fished in places like the ocean around Okinawa Japan. I caught some strange looking fish for a boy from the backwoods from Holt, Missouri. I learned many new ways to fish and lots of fun on a boat full of drunken Marines.

In the Marine Corps I did a lot of different things, I started out as a recruit in basic training at MCRD San Diego California. Then moved on to training as a mechanic working on gas engines and diesels in the aviation support equipment field. If it was around or used with an airplane, I worked on it. I spent my time bouncing around the United States from Military base to base. I spent the later part of my Career working on the KC-130 aircraft as a Hydraulic Mechanic and Quality Control Supervisor. I miss the Battle Herks of the Marine Corps. We helped hungry airplanes and some helicopters looking for fuel. We would extend our refueling hoses and the baskets would open up, the pilots would fly their aircraft to the basket and plug-in to refuel.

We all need to get together and have a fish fry, fresh fish of course. Maybe we can do that this summer. Love to fish. Love your site. Ron
